Hardpan

by Wilma last modified 2006-11-30 10:01

Florida hardpan is a common rock that most often looks like a sandy clod. The USDA says that hardpan is a hardened or cemented soil horizon, or layer. The soil material is sandy, loamy, or clayey and is cemented by iron oxide, silica, calcium carbonate, or other substance. If you tease away the loose sand many and varied shapes are revealed.
