Florida hardpan is a common rock that most often looks like a sandy clod. The USDA says that hardpan is a hardened or cemented soil horizon, or layer. The soil material is sandy, loamy, or clayey and is cemented by iron oxide, silica, calcium carbonate, or other substance. If you tease away the loose sand many and varied shapes are revealed. A piece of marble found along the eastern coast of Taiwan near Hualien. It was a particularly rewarding walk along the beach after a superb meal. It is 5" tall x6 1/2" wide x 3 1/2" thick. Weight is 5 lbs 14 oz.
